Photos and a Recap From Our Weekend Trip to York, Maine

Note: I’ve been trying to publish this post for WEEKS, but between school vacation, sick kids, sick mommy and snow days, time has NOT been on my side.

A couple weeks ago, for Valentine’s Day weekend, my boyfriend and I went to York Beach, Maine, for some much needed R&R. After all the stress we’ve been under in recent months, we figured it was time for us to focus on our relationship and to get away from all that we’ve been dealing with.

That weekend away would not have been possible had we not received a New England Inns & Resorts gift certificate from my future father-in-law who’s an extremely kind and generous man, just like his son. (I’m extremely lucky to be marrying into such an amazing family. I can’t wait to change my last name to their’s. It will be an honor.)

When my boyfriend’s dad instructed me to open the envelope containing the gift certificate on Christmas Eve, I had no idea what it contained. But as soon as I saw what it was, I teared up. It was the kindest, most thoughtful gift he could have given us. It meant a lot to me because I knew in my heart of hearts that even though my boyfriend and I had been talking about going away for Valentine’s Day for months, we eventually would not go because our children’s wants and needs would come first. And I’m not complaining. We are parents before anything else.

In early January we finally chose the place we wanted to stay. York Harbor Inn.

I can honestly say I do not regret that decision in the least. The room we stayed in was small but it had an amazing view of the ocean. Seriously, we could lay in our bed and look out the window and see it. What a sight to wake up to!

And the food? Oh my goodness! It was delicious. We ate at the Ship’s Cellar Pub Friday night. I ordered a meal called Lobster Dublin that tasted phenomenal. Once dinner was finished, all we had to do was walk about twenty feet to the front door of the Yorkshire House. It couldn’t have been more convenient or perfect.

Since that weekend was not only about making me feel special and loved, I wanted to do something special for my boyriend, so I told him that I wanted to take a tour of Redhook Brewery because I knew he would love it. He’s wanted to go on a brewery tour for a long time, and since he was going to a wine tasting dinner with me that night, I figured it was only fair we do something he would like. AND BOY DID HE! He now has a new favorite beer…Longhammer.

One other part of our weekend away that I want to mention is our ride along the coast. We stopped at Nubble Lighthouse and got some amazing photos. One of which will end up as a shower curtain in our bathroom. (We are going with an ocean/beach theme.)

Overall, though Valentine’s Day weekend isn’t the best time to visit the coast because it’s cold and snowy, it was a magical weekend that we both thoroughly enjoyed and will remember forever.
